Australian Wildlife Collectable - Koala & Joey

The koala is native to Australia and has a small cuddly bear-like appearance, with thick fur, usually ash grey, with a tinge of brown. It is often found in trees, being a herbivorous marsupial and weighs about 9kg (20lb). The koala gets its name from an ancient Aboriginal word meaning 'no drink' because it receives over 90% of its water from Eucalyptus leaves (also known as gum leaves) it eats, and only drinks when ill or times when there is not enough moisture in the leaves. ie during droughts etc.

Koalas today are found in Queensland , New South Wales , Victoria and South Australia . Their range extends from the Atherton Tableland west of Cairns in Qld to islands off the coast of Victoria and South Australia in the south, and west to central and western Qld, NSW and Victoria.

This Koala and its gorgeous little cub is designed by Australian artist Debra Gillet. Dimensions: 180mm

Debra Gillet is an artist from far North Queensland. In her work, she captures the essence of tropical Australia. Debra not only sculpts in clay, wax and bronze, but she also paints in acrylics and all drawing media. Her original works are represented in Australian galleries and also in Florida, USA. Her wildlife sculptures aim to capture the charm and character of Australia's native animals, combining the accuracy of form and detail with great expression and whimsy. Debra hopes to bring a smile to your heart with these charming creatures.
